Groove King”
Alan, aka “the Pagan” or “the
Groove King” has a history steeped in rhythm; although he
can’t dance to save his life, when he gets on the ‘skins’
he is a percussion demon. Having studied from the age of eleven
in orchestras and bands, involving performances at the Royal Albert
Hall, Alan went on to study Music at Salford University gaining
a 2:1 B.A. hons. degree in Popular Music and Recording.
…. And the king of Diversity!
Alan gets in involved in many different band
projects enabling him to develop a wide range of styles from Latin
jazz ( Brazilian Batacuda and Bossa-nova, Cuban Charanga and Salsa)
through New Orleans funk, jazz, folk to country, rock and pop.
Musicals and famous name dropping ?
He has also played in the musicals ‘Oliver'
and ‘Oh What a Lovely War'. Alan has worked with, bassist
Henry Olson (formerly of Primal Scream), producer and songwriter,
Alexis Smith (Moulin Rouge and David Gray). “The Pagan”
has toured extensively around the UK, Germany and Cuba with many
different acts, including drumming for ‘Charlie Winston’
(top chart band in France as of 2009) supporting Peter Gabriel.

He holds teaching appointments with several
schools in north London and he has recently completed building
his own personal recording/rehearsal studio at his home which
will be featured in ‘Sound on Sound' magazine.
